Carson Pass

Dates: March 11-12, April 1-2

Incredible terrain around the historic Meiss Hut. Built in 1878! Steep faces or gentle rolling hills at the headwaters of the Truckee river. Possible 3,100 ft. descent from Red Lake Peak to Hope Valley.

We try to move at a sensible pace and tailor activities to match the fitness level of our guests, still please approach this trip as an athletic event, prepare accordingly. Please show up well rested, hyper-hydrated, well fed, gear ready, eager to learn and ready to have fun!

Saturday we will meet at 10:00am at the snow park parking area 1/4 mile west of Carson Pass (Highway 88) on the North side of the road. Depending on conditions we will either head into the Meiss hut or climb and descend Red Lake Peak (a 3,100 ft. descent!) and then go into the hut.

On Saturday we will be working on skills needed for boarding/ skiing on varied terrain.

Sunday we will work more on avalanche awareness including the basics of snow pits. We will spend the day on the slopes and ridges above the hut with plenty of time to work on individual skills before heading out Sunday late afternoon, returning to the cars before dark.

Cost: $250 Includes food and group equipment.
