Rock Creek

Dates: April 14-16

Rustic cabins, hidden away in the longest north/south running canyon in the whole Sierra, offer exquisite runs at all levels !

The jewel of the High Sierra, incredible terrain in the heart of the high peaks, Mts. Abbot, Dade, and Bear Creek Spire, 13,700. We stay at the renowned Rock Creek Lodge, with classic cabins, plentiful gourmet cooking, and world class location.

Friday April 14th, we will meet at 3:45 pm to get ready for a 4:00 snowcat ride into the Rock Creek Lodge. Some years the road is plowed by this date, in which case we can meet at the lodge at 6:00 pm. If you must arrive later that is ok. However, due to the high altitude (when did you last sleep at 9373 feet!) we strongly encourage you to enjoy the day Friday driving to the beautiful East side (ask for the map to the best hot tubs!) and then join us for an inspiring evening program with breathtaking slides of some of John Moynier’s best tours and an informative lecture on mountain weather and avalanche avoidance.

Saturday after breakfast we will split up into various experience/activity groups and head out into the Cirque on Pointless Peak. Beginners will enjoy the gentle terrain, perfect for learning, at the lower part of the cirque with great views of the advanced group that will (conditions permitting) be descending the central couloir of Pointless. Of course, there is plenty of terrain in between beginner and advanced. We will slide to our hearts content before heading back to the lodge. Depending on snow levels, Rock Creek grooms some 15 kilometers of Cross Country Trails. For those so inclined, (with any energy left) an evening spin on the tracks is a great way to see the sunset colors. Gourmet dinner, sauna, relax, recover etc.

Sunday will be more of the same in a different location. We will go where the snow is best and the angle most appropriate for the group you are in.

Cost: $380 Includes lodging, meals.
